Like most districts, we are all given some non-negotiables that ALL schools must follow. One that we have had for a while is all elementary schools must be teaching the same thing at the same time. So we have a team go in and create a detailed YAG that we all must follow together (I am NOT a fan). Each year they seem to add something new. Well, a couple of years ago we were given the directive that every grade level must have an interactive notebook in each core subject. This was a change that us kinder teachers freaked out over. Instead of having a summer to think it through and get our creative juices flowing to make this possible for FIVE YEAR OLDS, we were told that we had to do this less than a week before school started. That always seems to happen to us. (Do your districts do this!?) Needless to say, we freaked out and that first year wasn’t all that great. They weren’t interactive notebooks… it was something more like “here this will fit in a composition book… lets just paste it in.” Or “here, have the kids just draw this in there…” It was also a lot of forgetting to use them because we weren’t used to using them. The subject that we struggled in the most was science. This is where most of the drawing took place and since they were five, it didn’t always make sense. I also wanted them to take these home at the end of the year and have parents be able to make sense of it all as well. Last summer I took all the notes that I had made throughout the year and was determined to make a five-year-old-friendly notebook. We needed something that actually contributed to what we were learning instead of rushing to put something into a notebook because we had to. We were able to use all of this last school year and it was great!!! The students left with material that the parents could understand and something to practice with over the summer. I was pretty proud of it. Since it worked so well I have put it all together in a packet for you and I hope you enjoy it just as much! I might just give it with a huge discount too Here is a little sneak peak of what it will look like: In each section there is vocabulary that supports the theme and when possible there are reinforcements to check students’ understanding of the topic. For example: The students loved the days that we got to work in our notebooks. They thought it was so cool that they could make flip tabs and that their drawings were hidden under tabs when done. It was adorable. Since I am so excited about this, I have decided to have this product HALF OFF until Wednesday. That means you can get this whole thing for only $4!!!! You can find it HERE!!! What are you waiting for? Go scoop it up now! Happy Teaching
