The script to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was released and I rannnn to Target first thing in the morning and picked up a copy.
Now, 2007 Ashley would have begged everyone to go to the midnight release party with me but 2016-almost-30-and-with-a-kid Ashley just couldn’t do it. Well, I probably could have but I just didn’t want to put in the effort. Sad, I know.
Anyway, it worked out for the best.
While Lacey napped I read and read and read. Then Kyle made dinner and I read some more. It was a perfect day.
I finished the book all in one afternoon and had so many emotions swirling around!
I wanted to share my thoughts on the book with you.
WARNING!!!! THIS COULD BE A SPOILER FOR YOU IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE BOOK!
1. I really hated the fast pace of it all.
Look, I get it. It’s a SCRIPT. But reading it made me miss the detail that comes with Rowling novels. Ughhhhh I yearned for a true 8th book. Details, side stories, spells, more magic… the whole nine yards. I need it all.
2. A HUGGGGE rumor was confirmed that most Potter fans speculated… the love child.
I loved that there was a love child between Voldy and Bellatrix. I mean, you know there was something going on between them. Lestrange was obsessed with Voldemort. C’mon… starting in Half Blood Prince, you know you thought they probably did the dirty. But honestly, I reallllllllllllly wanted to know more about their child though. I need the whole backstory… that goes back to number 1.
3. Scorpious made me so sad.
I honestly thought he was going to be the cursed child. I thought he was going to be the twist. Any good that you saw shine through Draco during the first books ended up being passed to Scorpious. I am so sad that he has this horrible rumor surrounding him and was a dark cloud over his head. This poor kid has it rough yet he is so sweet! I loved him.
4. I am so glad one of Harry’s children is a Slytherin.
I honestly thought that one of them had to be when finishing Deathly Hallows. No matter what, Harry had dark blood running through his veins. The horcrux died but the aftermath was still there. Brilliant.
5. The Cedric Diggory story coming back was SO GOOD to me.
I lovvvved that this is what Albus was trying to change. It was something that shouldn’t have happened. It was something that showed Voldemort was truly disgusting slime that had no remorse at ALL. I also love that there was glimpses into the future that showed what-could-have-been. THIS again brings me back to number 1. I wanted them to spend more time there. I wanted to know more…. Ahhhh it’s killing me. It also made the Gryfindor side of Albus shine through. No true Slytherin would give a rat’s booty about some kid that died years ago. It’s the Gryfindor side that tried to make a wrong death right.
6. The scene with Snape made me cry.
When he realized he died for the greater good… that Harry’s child was named after him… that he was truly a hero. Oh God… I loved it.
7. Then I turned around and cried again.
When Harry and Albus are at Cedric’s grave sharing a moment I teared up… then when Harry admits that he goes often just to say he is sorry, I LOST IT. Can you imagine how much weight he carries? So many people died for him. Believing in him. We all know it worked out for the best but Harry constantly has that shadow following him around. Oh gosh…. I think I need to go back and read it again.
8. This was not an 8th book for me.
I feel like I read one of those mini write ups that JK Rowling uploads to Pottermore. AGAIN, I NEED MORRRE.
9. I don’t think this is the end.
So we all heard hearts break all over the world when JK Rowling announced Harry’s story is done. Harry Potter books are no more after the Cursed Child. While I believe that is true, I have a hunch that Rowling might dive into some prequel action. I have intense hopes that she dives into it. I want to know about the original Order. I want to know what the school years were like for Moony, Padfoot, Wormtail and Prongs. I WANT TO KNOW THE DETAILS OF WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN LILY AND SNAPE!
I think Rowling knows that her fans reallllly want that. I hope she finishes up with the Cormoran Strike series and then takes a stab at the prequels we are all dying for.
What do you think??? I want to know everyone’s thoughts on this! I am dying to have serious discussions about this! The few people I know that have read the book just say “it was good.” I need someone as crazy as I am to talk about this with!!! Anyone?
