Each month there is a special “Let’s Talk” link up and a theme! This one is fun because I recently have really started liking getting ready for the day. I think it is partly because it makes me feel human again (which is nice after a rough night) and because I have been using better make up and a better routine thanks to Kate at the Small Things Blog. I will be honest though, I am nervous to show my makeup-less face.
First off, I shower right when my hubby heads out for work and Lacey is still sleeping which is around 6:30. This has been working out well for me apart from the days that Lacey wants to wake up at 6:30. Those are usually yoga pants and a messy bun kind of day.
I also only wash my hair twice a week. Usually on Saturday morning and Tuesday (or Wednesday) morning. I started washing a lot less because of postpartum fallout. It helped tremendously! Today was not a hair wash day so it went into a very high messy bun while I showered!
In the shower I make sure to wash my face. I use Cetaphil this was recommended by Kathleen and I love it. As soon as I get out I make sure to use my Repechage toner (I cannot find this online… I bought it at a spa I went to) and Facial Milk from Julep. Seriously that stuff is life changing. It usually offers enough moisture but on days where I feel extra dry, I use Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar.
After that, I start my make up. First, concealer to hide my bags and blemishes…. ’cause no one needs that in their lives.
Scary face! but look how well it works! I love this Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer.
I have also been using this blending sponge. INVEST IN ONE NOW.
Next up is foundation. I usually rotate through these three depending on how much coverage I need for the day. They are all full coverage but as the day goes on they each fade at different speeds. Today I am using the Amazonian clay 12- hour full coverage foundation. To me this is the “medium” coverage of the bunch. Amazonian powder being the fastest fading, Amazonian Foundcealer being the longest lasting… I save that for days where we have a lot planned or a special event. It is AMAZING. While the 12-hour lasts all day, the Foundcealer is just better at coverage.
Use the fat end of the sponge now!
Make sure it is damp, then start dabbing the make up all over your face. It leaves zero streaks and your skin looks better!
After foundation, I like to do my eyes…. this is my favorite part about doing my make up!!!!!
Isn’t it glorious?! Top is the holiday kit (no longer sold), bottom is the QVC exclusive kit (no longer sold).
I have been investing in better brushes lately and it is so worth it. These are the three I use for my eyes. Tarte eye brush from the QVC kit, SOHO blending brush, Sonia Kashuk eyeshadow brush #20.
Base: Jingle all the Gray
Crease: Rose Such a Clatter, Corner: Vio-let it Go
I learned from Kate to always soften and blend with a lighter color. This has helped me not look so “harsh.”
Julep makes THE BEST eye liners! This one is crazy bright but if you do a small enough line, it makes your eyes pop!
Tarte eyelash curler
Tarte Amazonian clay blush: Warmhearted (not sold anymore… similar)
Tarte: Lights, Camera, LASHES
And Julep has the best brow filler too! It is double ended, one end is the brush while the other is the color pot.
Done with make up… minus my lips, those are always last. On to my hair!!! I curl my hair with my straightening iron and use some duckbill clips to section my hair. Dry shampoo is a must-have. Although I would not recommend this one! It leaves your hair way more powder-y than others. I am going to try Living Proof next. I have heard great things!
Twist as you go down for some nice waves.
I lovvvvve putting on some Doterra Whisper in the mornings. I am huge on aromatherapy and this scent makes me soooo happy! (I do not use this as my perfume though!)
This is such a fun link up! I am LOVING reading how you all get ready too!
