This year has been by far one of the most challenging and difficult years that I have ever experienced. I started off planning to blog at least once a week because I went into this year totally prepared thinking that this would be the best year yet. Though I went in with this, reality quickly set in and told me “yeah right, Ashley.”
This year I have literally been hit, kicked, bitten, anything you can think of. My teaching was constantly interrupted because things were thrown at me. If it wasn’t that, then it was a chair being thrown across the room. I got no teaching done. Panic started to creep in and with that came stress. My class was low and I knew it was because I wasn’t getting in the teaching that I was supposed to be doing. The first grade teachers are going to kill me.
Now, I know it seems like I just can’t get a hold of behavior in my class. Well, actually it is because I have four students that require special services but since it is kindergarten and “we don’t test in kindergarten” I was basically told I need to deal with it.
I did not let that stop me.
I was outraged. How can they deny help to those who obviously need it? How can they let my class go on like this with children getting hurt? How can they let this go on with children not learning? That is what school is for, is it not?
From the first day of school until the middle of February, I kicked, screamed, and cried at people to come give one child in particular help. Finally wishes were granted and they allowed testing per mother’s request.
This poor child is finally getting the help he needed. I don’t blame him for what he did. He was frustrated, he didn’t get it. I am happy that he is finally getting the services that will help him.
I am not going to lie, the other kiddos and me not getting hurt on a daily basis is a plus as well.
That was a huge reason why I haven’t blogged. Of course there are more. Like I said, it has been a really tough year.
I am hoping that starting this summer, I will begin a new chapter. A positive one. My plan is to work very hard to make sure I don’t have another year like this one. My plan is to also become very serious about this blogging thing! Bare with me.
Vent over.
Now on a better note, I have worked on some things that I have posted on TPT. At my store you will find sight word practice that has a packet that coincides with Mcgraw-Hill and also a Dolch Word List Pre-Primer. I have Write Around the Room pages that I think your kiddos will LOVE. We hide them in tricky places so it is more like a scavenger hunt. The kiddos LOVE it!!! They are having a blast while writing and practicing vocab words.
Check out my store HERE.
Until the summer (I am counting down the days!),
